Why Agile® is the lifeline that healthcare providers need

Agile, Quanta News 19th Jan

Living through a pandemic has put a lot of things into perspective for people from all walks of life, and forced many of us to get our priorities in order. Basic pleasures that we used to enjoy on a whim, like being able to hug loved ones or going for drinks after work, now require committee meetings and risk assessments.

We have had to adapt our priorities according to our circumstances.

For healthcare providers, the priority has always been and will continue to be providing a first-rate service to patients. I’m sure that will never change, regardless of circumstance.

However, the way in which that first-rate service is best delivered does change.

Effective project work requires a simple approach, flexibility, cohesion, clear performance targets, and KPIs that objectively define and prove success.

Agile® project management encompasses all of these practices

Over the past few years, more and more healthcare providers in the UK have been implementing an Agile® approach to project management.

Using an Agile® approach allows teams to harness change, rather than resist it. This means that changes suddenly become opportunities to develop sustainably, rather than obstacles that constantly require overcoming.

Agile® is also proven to drive quantifiable success in key areas, such as:

  • Operational performance
  • Quality of care
  • Financial efficiency
  • Responsiveness

The key to delivering healthy KPIs is to first focus on delivering good services, and that’s what Agile® is all about. Championing a pragmatic approach allows you to easily discern which practices and environments work well for your team, and which are slightly less effective.

An Agile® environment promotes sustainable development, with the big idea being to reduce the amount of work done by team members and allow them to focus on their areas of expertise. This is achieved by building a project around motivated individuals and trusting them to get the job done, resulting in a team that is able to adapt and improve on-the-go.

The end result of an Agile® approach is that, thanks to improved efficiency and reduced workload, healthcare providers are able to provide a much more coherent, flexible and satisfactory service to their patients.

At Quanta, we’re proud to have partnered with the NHS, as well as other healthcare providers, to deliver countless Agile courses, including AgilePM® FoundationCertified Scrum Product Owner®, and Certified ScrumMaster®.

We want to help healthcare providers across the UK maximise their assets and streamline their processes, so that they can offer the best possible service to the people who need it.
