A highly engaging way to not only learn but experience the power of Lean

An engaging and illuminating one-day simulation that focuses on illustrating, and bringing to life, the principles of continuous improvement and Lean philosophy. By managing a simulated car factory over a series of rounds, you will identify areas for improvement, and using the tools and techniques you have learnt, apply these to later rounds and see the impact that they have on production, customer satisfaction and profitability.

Who is this course for

Anyone who wishes to learn the principles of continuous improvement and Lean.

Purpose of the course

The course offers the opportunity to put into practise Lean theory and to see the impact of these. It does this in a highly practical way using experiential learning theory as its basis.

You will learn how to


  • Define Lean and its key terms

  • Describe the Toyota Production System

  • Explain value and improve value from the perspective of the customer

  • Identify and reduce various types of waste

  • Use the PDCA model and A3 to plan and execute Lean changes

  • Use Lean thinking tools including 5S, Gemba and Andon

  • Explain the advantages of push / pull production and Single Piece Flow

  • Use Kanban boards to aid planning

  • Use process diagrams, Ishikawa diagrams, and other tools to identify root causes and waste

  • Develop the desire to incorporate Lean into your corporate culture
