PRINCE2 2017 - updates to Practitioner status

PRINCE2 2017 brings important changes to how your Practitioner status is maintained. With the previous version of PRINCE2, Practitioner status lasted for 5 years, however with the new update Practitioner status will last for 3 years.

You will no longer be able to renew your Practitioner status through a 're-registration' exam. Instead you will need to do one of the following to maintain Practitioner status.

  1. Pay for an active subscription to the AXELOS PRINCE2 membership scheme each year for 3 years, whilst also completing the required 45 CPD points within the 3 year period
  2. Retaking the full PRINCE2 Practitioner exam at the end of the 3 year period

AXELOS membership scheme

AXELOS membership is an online subscription designed to provide PPM and ITSM professionals with a wide range of content, templates, toolkits, online resources and Best Practice. Members also have access to a CPD (Continual Professional Development) recording tool. If you meet the CPD criteria you can apply for a digital badge which can be used to validate your certifications.

What is a digital badge?

Digital badges are online tokens that appear as icons and are awarded to signify learning achievements in a way that can be easily verified and shared online. Badges display information about your professional development activity as well as the issue date and expiry date.

Digital badges are issued in the first year of membership. As long as sufficient CPD points are logged during this time the expiry date will be extended at each renewal demonstrating that this is a continuous award.

What are the costs of membership?

AXELOS membership currently costs £100 per year with a one-off registration fee of £25 in year one. This means that a three-year membership would cost you £325 (£25 one-off registration fee + three annual payments of £100).

If your membership should lapse, then you will need to pay the usual membership registration fee to re-join the scheme.
