So what is ITIL?

ITIL or the Information Technology Infrastructure Library, are a range of official publications from AXELOS in the United Kingdom.  ITIL has emerged as one of the worlds most widely accepted approach to the management and delivery of IT Services. It has been developed in recognition of organisations' growing dependency on IT in order to satisfy their corporate aims and meet their business needs. We offer you a number of ways in which we can assist with your ITIL needs.

So is ITIL simply ITSM?

Yes and now.  While a version of ITSM (IT Service Management) is a component of ITIL, ITIL also covers a number of related but distinct disciplines and the two are not synonymous.

ITIL has been referred to as documenting common sense!  If you look at other sources it is described as the most widely accepted approach to IT service management in the world. Although I am not entirely sure that is 100% true, it is widely adopted and does provide a cohesive set of best practice, drawn from the public and private sectors internationally.

So what are the benefits of ITIL?

Gartner say that an organisation’s total IT costs can be reduced by up to 48% by adopting the ITIL methodology.  In reality it does depend where your starting point is but one thing is for sure, it will bring you benefits!

Through the best practices drawn from the experience and wisdom of thousands of IT practitioners around the world, companies who adopt ITIL can not only expect to deliver substantial financial benefits but many other advantages as well, such as:

  • Better asset utilisation
  • Improved morale of service delivery and recipient staff
  • Lower staff turnover
  • Improved Customer Satisfaction
  • Improved systems availability
  • Improved staff efficiency
  • Lower cost per incident
